Infant and child Baptisms
During a christening your child will be baptised with water. This is the beginning of a journey of faith for your child and is a special day for your family and friends to celebrate with you.
It is normal practice at St. Cuthbert’s to hold a christening service following our regular Sunday worship. This means that the whole service is dedicated to your child and your family and friends. There will always be some members of our church who attend christenings so that your child is welcomed into our church family.
Arrangements can be made if you would like your child’s christening to take place during a service of Holy Communion.

And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved with whom I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:16-17
Confirmation
Some young people and adults who were baptised when they were babies, want to say for themselves what their parents and godparents said on their behalf at their baptism. This is known as confirmation.
A confirmation service is a very special one and at St. Cuthbert’s Church it is conducted by the Bishop of Whitby, Bishop Paul:

“Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13.4-7

Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so,
through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.
So we will be with the Lord for ever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
